Foxgrove Band Gates

This public art work, a low relief sculptural gate at the entrance to a pocket park in Ipswich, has a marching band running across the length of the gate

Foxgrove Band Gates was commissioned by Barratt East Anglia in 2007 at it situated on the Foxgrove Estate in Foxhall Road in Ipswich. It was a winner of The Ipswich Society Award. This site was in industrial use for many years before it was developed into a housing estate and pocket park. The gate marks the old site entrances to the Celestion loudspeakers factory and the Bull Motors factory and the head of the big bass drum has the Celestion speakers logo cut into it. The idea of the decorative gates depicting a marching factory band was to celebrate the success of the past whilst blowing life into the park.
