Blondin
A large metal sculpture of the french 19th century tight rope walker Blondin, high up on a plinth with one leg forward as if to step onto a tight rope
Commissioned by Birmingham City Council in 1994 this sculpture is located on the central reservation of Ladywood Middleway in Birmingham.
The character of Blondin, the tightrope walker, is linked to Birmingham as he also famously walked the local Edgbaston reservoir. In this public art sculpture he is atop a 4m plinth to walk Birmingham’s busy inner ring road. He strides out to link up the two halves of Ladywood that are separated by the dual carriageway. The sculpture also works as an informal sign, directing traffic to the shopping area.
