Capel St Andrew Sign
Three dimensional village sign with large metal sculpture of St Andrew the Fisherman, a tiny Chapel at his feet and low relief oak trees and deer behind
Commissioned in 2000 for the millennium by Capel St Andrew Parish Council this eye catching and unconventional village sign is in Capel St Andrew in Suffolk. It shows a fully three dimensional sculpture of the village namesake St Andrew. He is depicted in his profession as a fisherman, holding an eel in one hand and a fish in the other, referencing the catch in the local area. Behind him are oak trees in low relief that originally surrounded the coastal village. Borrowing from the iconography of the middle ages, by his feet is a tiny attribute, the ‘chapel’ or capel that gave the name to this Suffolk village.
