Jonah
large metal narrative sculpture of a hunched, jowly old man, with a walking stick and a fish in his mouth, a reversal of the biblical story of Jonah
This version of the bible character of Jonah has moved away from the story of the young man swallowed by the great fish to bring him to surrender. Here, rather than the one being swallowed, Jonah has a fish in his mouth. He also holds his white handkerchief in a teasing fashion not a waving it in surrender. This narrative sculpture is more concerned with how old men in power ignore the lives of people inflicting their will on the masses. It may only be a small fish, but Jonah is swallowing it whole.
