Doctor Foster

Large steel figure of the nursery rhyme character Doctor Foster holding a large umbrella and an old fashioned doctor's bag.

This larger than life metal figure is based on the nursery rhyme 'Doctor Foster went to Gloucester'. A huge umbrella shields this caricature from the oncoming rain. Shown dressed in a suit, he is on his way to treat his patients, doctor's bag in hand. Family doctors like the doctor from the rhyme were seen as a trusted pillar of the community and this earnest gentle giant, glasses perched on his nose ready to listen, is a physical embodiment of that idea.
